VALERY DEBELYY

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND CHOREOGRAPHER

Valery Debelyy is considered one of the leading Ballet Masters of Ukraine and of the former Soviet Union. For many years he was a leading soloist of the National Folk Ensemble under the leadership of the world renowned Paul Virsky.

He graduated with a Masters of Arts Degree in choreography from the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory of St. Petersburg, Faculty of Ballet Production. His professors included Professor Pyotr Gusiev and Artistic Director of the Kirov Ballet, Oleg Vinogradov, O. Berg, I. Glickman.

He was Ballet Master of the Paul Virsky Ensemble and staged productions at the most prestigious concert halls of the world: Le Grande Opera, Covent Gardens, Kennedy Center, La Scala and others. He was Artistic Director of the professional ensemble Kalyna that performed throughout Europe and the Far East.

Valery Debelyy has extensive experience in producing and staging large productions, in his years as Ballet Master of “Mosconcert”, Moscow.

His last project in December 2002 at the Winnipeg Playhouse Theatre was a ballet to the music of Peter Tchaikovsky, “The Children of the World Visit the Nutcracker” with the participation of eleven children’s multicultural ensembles and stars of European ballet.
